Emily Troutman Photographer

Emily Troutman is a writer, editor and photographer dedicated to telling stories with conscience. In 2009, she was named Citizen Ambassador to the United Nations. From 2010 to 2012, she was based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti where she reported on the earthquake recovery for numerous media outlets. Her work with AOLNews was a Finalist for the 2010 Online News Association, Online Journalism Awards in the category of Large Sites. Emily was previously based in Istanbul, Turkey from 2005 to 2008. She has also worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Iraq.

Following the earthquake in Nepal in 2015, Emily wrote extensively about the myriad issues surrounding the post-disaster humanitarian response including how less than 1% of funds collected went to local aid groups. Emily’s writing and photography has been published by Slate, Agence France-Presse, Monocle Magazine, The Guardian and many others. She has been featured in stories on CNN, France 24 News and in New York Magazine. Emily holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute.
